The Indian Caribbean Museum of Trinidad & Tobago Celebrates Ten (10) Years

The Indian Caribbean Museum of Trinidad & Tobago celebrated its 10th anniversary on Saturday 7th May 2016 with a dinner and an awards ceremony held at the Lakshmi Girls' Hindu College Auditorium in St. Augustine.

The guests, who were donors of artifacts and other material objects of East Indian ancestry were recognized for their contributions by being presented with certificates and tokens of appreciation by the management of the institution. The opportunity was also taken to honour and recognize the founder of the museum, Mr. Satnarayan Maharaj for his astute leadership as well as his sterling contribution in the field of religion, education, politics and other spheres of national development.

At the function, greetings were delivered by H.E. Shri Gauri Shankar Gupta, High Commissioner of India. Dr. Kumar Mahabir,  Vice-Chairman of the Indian Caribbean Museum gave a brief over-view of the museum whilst Saisbhan Jokhan, Curator of the museum presented a report on his stewardship since inception.

Our treasured guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner and entertained in music, songs and dances by top local Indian artistes namely Ghansham Ramsaroop and group, Bharath Singh - Flute Player, the Nritya Aradhana School of Dance as well as the Vishnu Boys Hindu College Tassa group.

The museum also held other in-house activities during the month of May 2016 to commemorate its 10th anniversary. These included free demonstrations in various East Indian art forms such as dhoti, pagri and saree tying as well as  pottery painting and rangoli and mehindi designs. Over one hundred individuals participated in these workshops which were spearheaded by Denesh Dilip Maharaj, Art Teacher at the Vishnu Boys Hindu College.

Another project that was initiated to observe the museum's 10th anniversary was an Art competition among secondary schools in Trinidad.  This project is in-train.

The management expressed their heartfelt thanks to all donors and sponsors of the institution over the past ten years.
